Rick Strankman – Aug 20, 2026 – High River, Alberta

Strankman described his family’s Alberta farming background and the 1995–96 Farmers for Justice grain convoys across the U.S. border, followed by federal charges, vehicle seizures, years of litigation, and incarceration after he and other farmers refused to pay penalties. He recounted the 2012 removal of the Canadian Wheat Board monopoly and his election to the Alberta legislature, then discussed the changes he has observed in grain marketing, processing, and farm technology. He raised concerns about right-to-repair restrictions, regulatory authority delegated to unelected officials, Alberta’s Special Areas governance, and government power affecting licences and property. He concluded by urging accountable regulators and politicians and stronger respect for land, personal, and intellectual property rights.
