Dawn Buschert, an Alberta farmer with decades of greenhouse and vegetable farming experience, testifies about the economic and regulatory pressures that contributed to the loss of her farming operation. She describes the effects of middlemen in the produce market, CanadaGAP certification requirements, carbon tax costs, misleading resale practices at farmers markets, inflation, and debt pressure. Her evidence focuses on how bureaucracy and centralized systems squeeze out small and mid-sized farms, reduce local food diversity, and undermine food security.
