Amrit Birring – Oct 17, 2024 – Vancouver, British Columbia

Amrit Birring is a dedicated community activist and political organizer from Surrey, British Columbia. As a father of two and software developer by profession, Birring became deeply concerned about educational materials and programs in BC schools, particularly the SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) curriculum. His passion for protecting children led him to organize numerous rallies, engage with students and officials, and even form his own political party – the Freedom Party of British Columbia – to address these issues. Birring testifies about his efforts to remove sexually explicit books from school libraries and challenge the SOGI program in BC schools. He describes filing complaints with police and organizing protests to raise awareness of his concerns about materials available to children.

Summary

In his testimony, Amrit Birring details his ongoing efforts to challenge what he views as inappropriate sexual content in BC school libraries and curricula. He describes finding books containing explicit sexual images in both elementary and secondary school libraries, which he argues violate laws against exposing children to sexual material. Birring recounts filing a criminal complaint against the BC Education Minister with the RCMP, organizing protests at schools, and forming a political party to address these issues.

Birring expresses frustration with the responses from school officials and law enforcement, who he says acknowledge the presence of the materials but claim no crime has occurred if the books haven’t been shown directly to children. He describes ongoing protests at schools during Pride Month, where he says students have expressed support for his message. Birring argues that the SOGI program and related materials are part of a broader agenda that is harming children, and he remains committed to continuing his advocacy efforts to protect students and reform educational policies in British Columbia.
